Interactive displays and projectors are becoming more prevalent in K-12 because they help create a dynamic classroom environment that promotes collaboration, creativity, and active learning. Teachers are no longer tethered to the computer at their desk and students can work on lessons directly with what is essentially a large touch screen. However, reliable transmission of AV content as well as USB controls between the instructor computer and the interactive display needs to be carefully considered. Especially when distances exceed the relatively short cable lengths supported by today’s high data rate video and control signals.
Solution
Atlona offers several Omega™ Series products specifically designed to address the distance limitations of traditional cables related to high resolution AV and USB signals. Transmitter and receiver pairs utilize a sophisticated transmission technology called HDBaseT™ that can extend these signals up to 330’ (100 m) over a single low-cost Category cable, which is common to networking connections. This allows for reliable performance of AV and USB between the computer and display even if the cable is routed through the wall, in the ceiling, or under the floor.
Application Design
The OME-EX-KIT-LT is ideal for classroom environments that require extension of AV signals from the teacher’s desk to an interactive display at the front of the room up to 330’ (100 m) away. It also extends USB signals back from the display to the computer for control.
The AT-OME-SW21-TX is a great option when multiple sources or connection types are needed, such as a room PC with HDMI and an instructor laptop with USB-C. It also features auto-switching and automatic display control. This means that it will automatically turn the display on and switch to the appropriate input when a source is connected. When the source is disconnected, it will shut the system down to conserve energy.
