Challenge

The modern courtroom is filled with AV technology. Video testimonies, crime scene footage, 3-D renderings, and other sources from computers, media players, document cameras, and videoconferencing equipment are incorporated into the case for all to see. In addition, a range of outputs to accommodate projectors, monitors, teleconferencing software and hardware must provide an accurate image to allow lawyers to present and the judge and jury to view.

Additional concerns over security, redundancy, and upgradability pose serious challenges that must be addressed by the AV system design and implementation. The underlying AV system must conquer these challenges and be nimble enough to accommodate the diversity of inputs and the multitude of outputs in a stable, consistent, high quality way.

Solution

Atlona’s solution to these challenges includes secure, AV switching, distribution, and control of audio, video, USB, and RS-232 signals from OmniStream Networked AV products. In addition to the advanced control over OmniStream, Atlona’s Velocity control system allows integration with third-party equipment to ensure the entire courtroom control is simple yet powerful.

OmniStream provides a wide range of products which enables greater adaptation to changing system needs. Dual-stream encoders allow a single device to stream two sources at the same time, reducing system complexity. Atlona’s OmniStream network-based AV over IP products also allow integration of remote equipment over a standard, 1Gb network with robust security and reassuring redundancy.

Challenge

Divisible rooms require flexibility to accommodate AV applications based on whether the room is divided or open (combined). The AV system solution needs to be easily configured for a single AV presentation, or two simultaneous but independent presentation sessions, with a simple means of switching back and forth between divided and open-room AV modes of operation.

The AV system design also needs to provide connectivity for presenter devices in each divided room. Additional AV functions may include content sharing to overflow rooms and video conferencing.

Solution

Networked AV provides the most flexible and straightforward approach to system design for a divisible room. A standard off-the-shelf, 24-port Gigabit Ethernet switch serves as the heart of the system. Simple network connections to endpoint locations handle presenter and source device connections, the displays, a DSP, amplifiers for sound reinforcement, and cameras for video conferencing.

AV over IP system designs are very easily adaptable to large, multi-divisible rooms in convention centers. This is accomplished simply by increasing network switching capacity and specifying the appropriate quantity and type of endpoint devices.
